This semester I have been inspired by folk singer-songwriter music - specifically ectofolk, anti-folk, freak-folk and psychedelic folk. I’ve been listening to a lot of Kimya Dawson, Jonna Newsom, Joni Mitchell, Alex G, Liz Phair, Adrienne Lenker, Vashti Bunyan, Joanna Sternberg etc. I have also been determined to practice writing lyrics. I have folky songs and snippets that I’ve been sitting on for a long time, and I’ve developed some of the lyrics and kind of fleshed them out as full songs. I’ve written a few new ones, too. It’s just guitar and voice (and I’m not very good at either) but in the future I would add more orchestral instruments and percussion (but in a very lo-fi way). Anyway I don’t officially have anything to show for it yet, but it’s something that I’ve been working on.

I have also been listening to lots of deconstructed club, hyper pop, escape room and bubblegum pop such as Charli XCX, SOPHIE, M.I.A., Nadiah Oh, Peaches, GFOTY, Salvia, Arca, Namasenda etc.
